Happy Loy Krathong

Today there is a full moon and in Thailand we celebrate Loy Krathong  (floating crown).

Loy Krathong is a chance to wash away the bad in your life and ask for good luck. Traditionally,  thai people make a Krathong  (crown) from flowers and leaves and maybe add some of their own hair and/or nail cuttings and release it into the sea or river, releasing the bad spirits.

Gin has been busy making Krathong and has made us a beautiful one.

We have organised a taxi to take our guests to the festival tonight in Old Town,  where there will food, drink, music and celebrations. Nick and I will be walking to the end of the pier to release our Krathong and ask for some good luck for the future.

Happy Loy Krathong to all our family,  friends and guests.

Warning over Krabi Airport Minibus Service

We have had a number of guests arrive at Krabi Airport at 14:00 and it has taken them until nearly 21:00 to get to the resort.

When you buy the minibus ticket at Krabi Airport they are now taking you into Krabi Town (the opposite direction) making you wait there for 2 hours, before bring you back (via the airport) to the island.

We strongly recommend you contact us regarding travelling to the island, so that we can make it as painless for you as possible.

Tasters & Teasers

Located within Phra Ae (Long Beach) village means we are able to walk to many great restaurants; Traditional Thai, French, Pizzeria,  Bakeries, Swedish, BBQ,  Seafood, British and German. But for us, having Red Snapper Restaurant as our neighbours is a real bonus.

Ed and Joyce are fantastic chefs, with many years of experience, cooking fine dining for discerning guests. When they opened Red Snapper they spent a long time sourcing excellent ingredients in order to design dishes that were affordable yet delicious.

Every now and again, they like to challenge themselves and their guests with new and experimental dishes. Friday, the 13th, was another mission for them, changing a traditionally unlucky day, when some hide indoors, into a fun culinary experience.

For one night only, they offered a 7 course menu, designed to tease your taste buds. We were not disappointed. Some guests had joined us for this wonderfully delicious night and everyone really enjoyed the experience.

For me, the dish of the day was the Black Cod, I have never had fish that literally melted in the mouth and was wonderfully complimented with a spinach dumpling and a tasty Chorizo bleurre blanc.

For Nick, he could not decide between the succulent Lamb Chop, with a Bacon Larb (spicy and meaty Thai salad), or the Duck Prosciutto salad (which he liked so much he took some home!).

They had also taken the time to build a wine collection that complimented each dish, so of course I needed to try as many as possible!

Today, they are back to their normal tasty menu, but you won't be disappointed, with the quality or the price. Try it tonight!

There is always a rainbow to cheer you up after some rain.....

Yesterday we had some rain for a couple of hours, I enjoyed it because it really cooled the air, but I knew our customers would be wishing it to end.

Suddenly it stopped and almost as suddenly all our customers came out and seemed to be taking photos of the clouds! More and more were coming out and taking photos, so I had to go and take a look and see what all the fuss was about.

A beautiful rainbow had appeared and unfortunately my photo does not do it justice, but it was almost a complete half circle stretching from the beach to the mountain.

It obviously captured a lot of imagination on the island, as several other people nearby started posting photos of it too on Facebook.

Making friends. ...

Pi Deng, Neng and Kaiser have not just been serving great breakfasts in the restaurant,  they have been making friends and stealing beautiful babies from our guests.

Add Lanta Museum to your to do list.

Whilst you are here on Lanta, be sure to add Lanta Old Town and Lanta Museum on your 'To Do' List.

Old Town is the original main town of the island and is located in the South East of the island. A beautiful town, with most buildings constructed from wood, it has a number of distinctive restaurants and shops selling beautifully hand made products. Hammock House is a must.

But Khun Thom has also lovingly created Lanta Museum, based in the heart of the town, to preserve the heritage of this beautiful island. Learn about the Sea Gypsies, the original settlers and the traditional way of life in Lanta.

Well Done Mr Fixit!!

Congratulations to Ya, for receiving his first ever mention in a TripAdvisor. Although the rest of the staff did not celebrate his success!

Ya fixed up some extra Mosquito netting, at a moment's notice and fixed a blown fuse in a room at 10.30pm, well past his knocking off time!

Ya impressed the customers with his happy demeanor and quick action.

If our staff impress you, please take the time to:

- Tell us
- Mention them on TripAdvisor
- Tip them!

They really appreciate the feedback and work very hard to make our resort a great place to stay.

Well done Ya.

The Mook Lanta Team!
